Zhamso Radnaev (1958)

Zhamso Radnaev teaches at the Ulan-Ude Art School.

Gentle humour underscores his tender, wistful paintings, and delicate pencil drawings. Radnaev prefers to depict innocent children, animals and birds rather than adults in his timeless landscapes. His works derived from Buryat culture and mythology but his hallmark almost square format and muted palette differ from the brighter colours of Buryat tradition – evoking the Russian school of painting reminiscent of his training at the Krasnoyarsk Art Institute.

In 2008, he had a solo exhibition at the prestigious Tsyrenzhap Sampilov Art Museum in Ulan-Ude.
